Class Descriptions

DESCRIPTION OF REGULAR DANCE CLASSES  2009-2010

Available for our Fall Program (September-June)

Pre Classes (ages 5-6)
Our pre level classes will help the youngest dancer begin to develop a dance vocabulary that will grow with them for years to come.

 

Level 1 & 2 (ages 6 and up)
These classes are for dancers with no dance experience (beginners) to those that have some experience (intermediate).  Dancers will learn to assimilate movements into combinations and full-length routines that reflect the energy and rhythm of different types of music.

 

Level 3 & 4
These classes are for the more advanced dancer. Dancers participating in these classes will be expected to exemplify intensity and determination.  All types of upper level skills and fast choreography assimilation are part of the regular class curriculum.

 

*These guidelines are intended to help make class selections. Final determination and placement will be left to the discretion of the instructor/director. 

It will take more than one year to complete each level!

CREATIVE MOVEMENT 3-4 year olds (45 minutes)

Learn basic movement through the use of the dancer’s imagination.  Dancers will learn rhythm, coordination and dance movement through creative props and fun music. 

PRE-JAZZ (K-2) (45 minutes) 

Consists of learning jazz basics which includes leaps, turns, flexibly, and ballet technique.

 

HIP HOP (1st and up) (1 hour)

High energy classes emphasizing popular dance steps seen in current dance music videos.  These classes are relaxed but challenging and bring out individual style.

 

PRE-TAP (K-1) (45 minutes)

In this introductory class student learn basic tap fundamentals; develop rhythm, coordination and clarity of sounds.

TAP (1st and up) (1 hour)

Drum with your feet!  Beginning levels focus on building a foundation of basic tap steps and rhythmic awareness.  Advanced levels continue basic technique work and class work includes advanced musicality and style, specialty steps or “tricks,” and improvisation.

JAZZ: (1st and up) (1 hour or 1 ½ hour)

Contemporary and upbeat.  This class will help create flexibility, strength and agility.  Styles may include classic style jazz in the style of Broadway musicals or lyrical style dance. 

PRE-BALLET (K-1) (45 minutes)

The perfect class for the younger ballet student.  This class includes ballet positions, barre work, floor, leaps and turns.  Helps develop coordination and grace.

BALLET (1st and up) (1 hour)

The foundation for a dancer, positions of classic ballet, turn out, proper placement, extension, and classroom etiquette are taught. 

Technique class only; does not learn recital piece.

 

*MUSICAL THEATER *Levels 1 and 2

Focus on combination of acting technique, singing technique and song-and-dance.  Level 2 will be featured as a competition class.  Requirements will be expected. Auditions will be held for Level 2.

*ACTING * Levels 1 and 2

Basic stage acting technique including voice and speech, physical awareness, and presence on stage.  Placement determined by instructor.  Auditions may be held to help with placement.
