Class Descriptions

Available for our Fall Program (September-June)

 

Pre Classes (ages 5-6)
Our pre level classes will help the youngest dancer begin to develop a dance vocabulary that will grow with them for years to come.

Level 1-4 (ages 6 and up)
These classes are for dancers with no dance experience (beginners) to those the more advanced dancer.  Dancers will learn to assimilate movements into combinations and full-length routines that reflect the energy and rhythm of different types of music.

Dancers participating in these classes will be expected to exemplify intensity and determination.  All types of upper level skills and fast choreography assimilation are part of the regular class curriculum.

Sub-Levels A/B (ages 6 and up)  Sub levels “A” and “B” are sub levels that divide a levels skills based on the dancers experience and ability.  Level B classes require instructor approval.

*These guidelines are intended to help make class selections. Final determination and placement will be left to the discretion of the instructor/director. 

It will take more than one year to complete each level!

 

CREATIVE MOVEMENT (3-4 year olds) (45 minutes)

Learn basic movement through the use of the dancer’s imagination.  Dancers will learn rhythm, coordination and dance movement through creative props and fun music. 

 

PRE-JAZZ/PRE-TAP COMBO. (K-1) (1 hour) Consists of learning jazz basics, flexibility and ballet technique, basic tap fundamentals, coordination and clarity.

 

HIP HOP (1st and up) (1 hour)

High energy classes emphasizing popular dance steps seen in current dance music videos.  These classes are relaxed but challenging and bring out individual style.

 

PRE-TAP (K-1) (45 minutes)

In this introductory class student learn basic tap fundamentals; develop rhythm, coordination and clarity of sounds.

 

TAP (1st and up) (1 hour)

Drum with your feet!  Beginning levels focus on building a foundation of basic tap steps and rhythmic awareness.  Advanced levels continue basic technique work and class work includes advanced musicality and style, specialty steps or “tricks,” and improvisation.

 

JAZZ: (1st and up) (1 hour or 1 ½ hour)

This class will help create flexibility, strength and agility.  A jazz class will incorporate leaps, turns, kicks, combinations and routines. 

 

PRE-BALLET (K-1) (45 minutes)

The perfect class for the younger ballet student.  This class includes ballet positions, floor, leaps and turns.  Helps develop coordination and grace.

 

FAIRYTALE BALLET (3-4 year olds) (45 minutes) Explore movement, ballet basics, and your favorite fairy tales!  Each week our little princesses will explore a different fairy tale theme.  Basic ballet movement, costumes and props will help bring each story to life.  We will explore classic tales such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Ariel, Jasmine, Mulan and Pochahontas.  (This is a 6 week session class and is not a recital performance class.)

 

BALLET (1st and up) (1 hour)

The foundation for a dancer, positions of classic ballet, turn out, proper placement, ½ class on barre, ½ class on center, extension, and classroom etiquette are taught. 

 

POINTE (1 hour) Instructor approval only.  This class is designed for the intermediate to advanced dancer who is continuing their ballet training.  Pointe classes focus and promote the development of a dancer’s feet and ankles while continuing their ballet technique.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ACROBATICS (Acro) (1 hour) Class focus is on tumbling skills.  An energetic class that is great for the student who likes to bounce, flip and bend!  This class covers creative activity as an introduction to gymnastics and enhances motor development.

 

STRENTH AND STRETCH (1 hour) A class designed for students interested in improving flexibility, strength and endurance.  An hour focused on safe stretching & increased muscle elasticity. Perfect for “getting your splits down”

 

TURNS, LEAPS & PROGRESSIONS ( 1 hour) This class is geared towards our competition students but is also offered to other students who have had jazz experience.  Students will work on flexibility, turns, leaps, and progressions across the floor.

 

YOGA (1 hour) An ancient practice designed to center the mind and create a strong flexible body, our yoga class is geared specifically for dancers and their particular needs as performers.
